Join us in the Performing Arts Center recital hall, for an evening celebrating the life and legacy of our Patriarch of Jazz and the founder of the UNO Jazz Studies program, Ellis Marsalis, for a free community screening of "ELLIS: The Life and Complicated Times of Pianist Ellis Marsalis Jr." - a film by Sascha Just 

About The Film:  Patriarch of the famed “First Family of Jazz,” Ellis Marsalis was a master jazz pianist, composer and educator. This intimate first feature length documentary with Ellis delves into the life and career of this music icon, interlaced with rare footage of key moments in US history, and footage of his final live performances. Anecdotes from sons Wynton, Branford, Delfeayo, Ellis III, Jason, and actor Wendell Pierce, round out the film as Ellis recounts for us the story of his illustrious life. More 

4:00pm: Meet & Greet Reception with Ellis Marsalis III, Derek Douget, Jason Stewart and Ashlin Parker 

5:00pm: Film Screening  6:30pm: Post-Screening Q&A Discussion with Director Sasha Just and Musician, UNO Faculty and longtime member of Ellis Marsalis Jr's quintet, Derek Douget
