JAZZ @ THE SANDBAR: Lynne Arriale

Dubbed "one of the most exciting pianists in contemporary jazz" by The Guardian UK, pianist and composer Lynne Arriale’s career is graced by a love of melody and a joy of musical discovery. She has performed on international concert and festival stages over the past 25 years as a consummate storyteller, immediately connecting with her listeners.  Arriale was the first prize winner of the 1993 International Great American Jazz Piano Competition, and soon launched her touring and recording career. Not only have her 13 albums as a bandleader topped the JazzWeek radio charts, but she is also a devoted educator and Yamaha artist at The University of North Florida.  In addition to performing at more than two dozen global music festivals, including many of the most renowned jazz festivals in the world like Montreux, North Sea, Monterey and Montréal, Lynne also performed as a part of "100 Golden Fingers" Japan tour.  JazzPolice called her "the poet laureate of her generation" and she has been consistently praised as having a "singular voice" as a pianist, bandleader and composer. While JazzTimes said of her, “Lynne Arriale’s music lies at the synaptic intersection where brain meets heart, where body meets soul. She is one of jazzdom’s most intensely unique voices."  We welcome Lynne back to New Orleans for her first guest teaching artist week in partnership with SouthArts.
