Born in 1973 into the musical Brunious and Santiago families, at age 12, Mark Braud’s uncle Wendell Brunious gave him a cornet, and soon after that he began playing jazz with Nicholas Payton. Braud started his career with the Olympia Kids, an offshoot of the Olympia Brass Band for younger musicians.

Born in 1973 into the musical Brunious and Santiago families, at age twelve, Mark Braud’s uncle Wendell Brunious gave him a cornet, and soon after that he began playing jazz with Nicholas Payton. Braud started his career with the Olympia Kids, an offshoot of the Olympia Brass Band for younger musicians, and soon began gigging, recording, and touring with New Orleans legends, including the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band, Eddie Bo, Henry Butler, Dr. Michael White, and Harry Connick Jr.
Braud has been a member of Harry Connick Jr.'s band since 2001 and was in the band on Connick’s syndicated television show, “Harry.” He served as the leader of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from 2008 to 2016, and after departing to work on his own recordings and tours, returned again in recent years as a resident artist there.
